Whether we like or it or not, every company seems to have one or two toxic people lingering around spreading their negative energy like the plague. The gossipers are discussing the latest hook-up in the break room while negative Nancy is moping around complaining she’s having the worst day ever. We spend a large percent of our lives at work so it’s important that we surround ourselves with other people who are going to inspire and motivate us. We don’t want great people to work with us; we need great people to work with us. It’s the only way to achieve success. Great co-workers are out there; you may even have a few surrounding you. We’ve found 5 important qualities of the best people to work with so that you can start spending your time with, or hiring them.
The Best People are Positive
The best people to work with find the silver lining in a dark cloud. They realize that every goal is an accomplished one, even if it is small. These types of people will find the lesson learned in failures, spreading optimism and positivity throughout the office.
The Best People Get Things Done
There is nothing worse than someone who comes to work and does nothing but waste time and talk to others. The best people to work with won’t distract you blabbing about last night’s episode of Game of Thrones because they’ll be too busy focusing on their own to-do list.
The Best People Dream Big
Surrounding yourself with other people who dream big is only going to inspire you to dream bigger. They will inspire you and often times hold you accountable to your goals.
The Best People Keep Their Personal Lives at Home
Sure, showing pictures of their little ones dressed up for their first day of school is fine. Getting to know your co-workers on a personal level is sort of necessary. But the best people to work with know when sharing time is over. They don’t come to work crying about the big fight that happened the night before. This is distracting for everyone in the office and a no-no.
The Best People Know How to Have a Little Fun
Okay, we don’t mean tequila shots and beer pong in the conference room. But it is beneficial to be able to joke around or go out every now and then with your co-workers. This quality isn’t necessary, but definitely a plus in our book.
You want to be surrounded by people who not only share a vision, but a genuine commitment to upholding your company’s values. The best people to work with are team players, don’t take themselves too seriously, and know how to have fun. If you are in a management or leadership position and think you’ve hired too many “negative nanncies”, it may be time for a change. A corporate coach can help you create a plan to hire more people with these important qualities.
