Highly confident people are often the CEO’s of multi-million dollar companies, managers of large corporations, and entrepreneurs of successful start-up businesses. They can also be found as a stay-at-home-mom (a.k.a. superwoman) taking care of her family. No matter how much money you make, whether it’s a million dollars a year or $12,000, highly confident people are always successful in whatever it is they do. They have a better chance at succeeding over the doubtful because they motivate others and make things happen. Highly confident people get what they want in life.
Vincent Van Gogh said it best:
“If you hear a voice within you say ‘you cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.”
Van Gogh understood that that the mind is a very powerful tool that can determine where you end up in life. Controlling your thoughts has a powerful effect on the actions you take that determine your life.
Learning to be confident is possible and clearly important. So what is it that highly confident people do on a daily basis that sets them apart?
The Traits of a Confident Person
Grab a pencil and take notes because we’ve revealed the 15 fundamental traits of highly confident people so that you can join them on the journey to success.
- They love themselves. Self-love is important and the key to being confident. Highly confident people love themselves and love who they are. They are also satisfied with who they are not.
- They get their happiness from within. Happiness is a key element to being confident. People with confidence derive their happiness from their own achievements as opposed to material things or what other people think of them.
- They are grateful. Gratitude has been proven to increase confidence. Rather than becoming resentful toward people who have more money or better jobs – which is a major factor in reduced confidence- grateful people are able to appreciate other people’s accomplishments.
- They exercise. Exercising not only gives you the instant gratification of stress-reliving endorphins but it also gives you an improved appearance and body image. Feeling attractive about the way you look pumps up your confidence.
- They are positive. Confident people are positive people. They know how to conquer their fears, eliminate doubts, and find the silver lining in unfavorable circumstances.
- They are prepared. Whether it’s reviewing notes before a big meeting or prepping meals for the week to ensure a healthy lifestyle, confident people are prepared. Being prepared ensures you’re more likely to do well and follow through with your goals.
- They never give up. Confident people are determined to reach their goals. They don’t quit because of minor setbacks; they get up and try again.
- They speak with certainty. It’s not very common you hear the confident saying, “um” and “I don’t know”. Instead they speak with assurance.
- They take risks. How are you supposed to reach success if you don’t step outside your comfort zone and take new opportunities? Being ambitious is a key element to having confidence. Confident people know what they want and challenge themselves to get there.
- They aren’t afraid to be wrong. When you don’t fear failure, you aren’t afraid to be wrong. Confident people are okay with uncertainty because they know that failure is an essential learning experience for growth.
- They applaud other people. Those who are jealous and criticize other people are lacking confidence. Confident people seek approval from the inside.
- They listen more than they speak. By listening to others, there is more of an opportunity to learn and grow. Confident people don’t feel the need to talk endlessly to try and prove themselves. Instead, they listen and pay attention to others.
- They are modest. Bragging comes from a lack of confidence. The confident don’t talk endlessly about their success; they let it speak for itself.
- They aren’t afraid to ask for help. Confident people know their strengths and weaknesses are happy with them. They look to fill the gaps by asking other people for help without shame.
- They dedicate time to what matters. There are only so many hours in a day which means priorities must take place first. Those who are confident are comfortable saying “no” firmly when they don’t have the time or energy for something.
Self-confidence can be learned, practiced, and mastered-just like any other skill. Once you master it, everything in your life will change for the better. If you are struggling with self-confidence or the fear of failure, you can turn things around with a little guidance. Yes, there is such thing as a confidence coach. A coach can give you strategic tools to be more confident and guide you along the path of reaching success. Building confidence is a journey, not a destination, and with a coach it can be a much more productive one.
