Positive Thinking Reduces Stress – Yes It’s That Simple
There’s been a lot of talk over the last few decades about the power of positive thinking. Can it really help you gain everything you want in life? Is there some magical, mystical force at work that can help us “think” our dreams and desires into reality?
It may sound like a fairy tale but believe it or not, it’s true. And no you don’t need a fairy godmother. I’m going to show you how to use the power of positive thinking to change your life around stat. Even if you’re the most negative of nellies, you too can turn that frown upside down.
The first thing most people want to know about this is, “Is it real? Does it really work?” Yes it does. Sure you may be skeptical. And I understand why. After all, how could it all be that simple? But look at it this way, did anyone understand the law of gravity 300 years ago? Or that bacteria causes diseases? Hell do you even understand how your phone really works? We talk into some device that transmits our voice thousands of miles away. How crazy is that? But whether or not you believe or understand something doesn’t affect it from functioning.
Regardless of whether or not you believe, it won’t hurt you to give it a shot. If nothing else, positive thinking will lower your stress levels.
The power of positive thinking is exactly what it sounds like. By thinking positive thoughts, you can influence yourself to make things happen. This technique involves reaching deep down within and changing your thought processes.
Let’s say two people are trying to complete the same difficult task. Both people are equally intelligent and equally skilled. One of those people has a positive cheery mental attitude. They are confident that they can complete the task. The other is full of anxiety and self-doubt. They are worried they can’t do it.
Who do you think will probably be able to complete the task fastest and with fewer mistakes? Chances are very good that the confident individual would finish first and with better quality work. Just think back to when you were in high school and had to take a test or you had a big game. When did you perform better? I think you know the answer.
Why? It’s simple. People make mistakes when they are stressed out. When they are upset, depressed, frustrated, or angry, they have a harder time dealing with things. Like terrorists or rioters. Or like a two-year-old having a temper tantrum. Or in my case a 16 week puppy nipping at my arms.
How many times have you been trying to do something and you got very frustrated or even angry? Did you find it harder to get it done? Maybe you were trying to repair something and you kept dropping your tools and the more it happened, the angrier you got. And of course, the angrier you got, the more it happened. Next thing you know you’re in a vicious cycle. It’s the old chicken and the egg syndrome; which came first your anger or the provoking incident.
Negativity affects you in many ways, but it can make it extremely difficult to get things done. When you think negative thoughts, it will often affect your behavior without you even realizing it.
Instead, you must focus on thinking positively. Whenever negative thoughts enter your mind, you have to learn to push them right back out again, or replace them with a positive thought. Over time positive thinking will become second nature. Just like learning to ride a bike or driving a car, it takes practice once you get the hang of it, the practice is a breeze.
So, can it help make your dreams come true? Most definitely! When you are happier, more confident, and more capable, you can accomplish a lot more. And there’s no “magic” in that!
